Job Summary
- Double-hat Coverage الدولة Head role with the الدولة CEO role
Key Responsibilities
- As CEO:
- Executive responsible for all Standard Chartered business interests in البحرين.
- Responsible to lead, drive and ensure effective execution of the Bank’s strategy across the business and functions - balancing financial performance, business, governance, risk management, conduct, people and talent, and stakeholder management.
- Accountable for instilling a high-performance culture.
- Act as the ambassador for the Bank in البحرين.
- Oversight of material risk decisions taken in the الدولة to ensure risk tolerances are complied with.
- Ensuring that all applicable regulatory requirements are considered and complied with and that issues relating to regulatory compliance are identified and resolved.
- Establish and maintain a robust relationship with key stakeholders in the الدولة, including government officials, regulators, community leaders, industry bodies, political leaders and business leaders.
- Responsible for working with the following people who have responsibility for other activities of the الدولة business: Business Heads, Transaction Banking and Financial Markets, Function Heads and others.
- Provide an independent view, challenging and guiding decision-making across businesses and functions in الدولة.
- Responsible for the implementation and oversight of الدولة CIB client segment strategies and marketing, ensuring alignment with Cluster & Group.
- Drive opportunities across business lines.
- Consult on group strategies that need to be executed in الدولة.
- Aggregate information, share status, and give updates.
- Provide advisory and guidance to cluster countries on the resolution of الدولة matters.
- Promote collaboration and cross-pollination within the الدولة.
- Drive the overall business agenda in the الدولة and bring alignment across the business and functions by working with the client segment and product heads to maximise and protect franchise value.
- Enable implementation of business strategy, including appropriateness and suitability – at the الدولة level.
- Act as an executive sponsor to develop key client relationships, including driving business with sovereign relationships and network clients into and out of the الدولة.
- Champion and support network and cross-border business initiatives aimed at maximising total Group franchise value.
- Effective management of the الدولة balance sheet, including liquidity management and efficient use of capital, to support the execution of the الدولة and business plans.
- Ensure alignment of business budgets and targets with balance sheet considerations, supporting infrastructure (people, systems and property) and الدولة plan.
- Ensure adherence to Group guidelines in respect of remittance of profits and adequacy of capital.
- Facilitate collaboration among CIB and WRB.
- Identify and develop white spaces within the الدولة.
- Challenge business performance and aspiration relative to local competition.
- Oversight of prudent cost management.
- Recommend and enable appropriate acquisitions or disposals of businesses and/or subsidiaries.
- Leverage Sustainability and Community Engagement to enhance the Group’s internal and external reputation.
- Responsible for appropriate classification of clients to either Regulatory or Group appropriateness standards and sale of products accordingly.
- Responsible for complaints handling in accordance with Group standards.
- Responsible for distribution of marketing materials and communications to clients.
- Ensure Loan Impairment is managed within expected levels within CIB.
- Responsible for optimizing الدولة business processes.
- Support the continuous improvement of processes to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Support the effective management of operational risks across the business and in compliance with applicable internal policies, and external laws and regulations at a global level.
- Support the delivery of Business Strategy in a safe and well-controlled manner.
- Responsible for the integrity of client data within the الدولة as it relates to CIB Coverage processes.
- Ensure delivery of Business strategy in a safe and well-controlled manner and on an end-to-end basis – incorporating infrastructure requirements and ensuring that they are fit-for-growth.
- Responsible for understanding the risk and compliance requirements of the role and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Accountable for audit readiness and preparation in the الدولة.
- As الدولة Head of Coverage:
- Implement CIB Strategy in the الدولة and coordinate execution of the business plan, specifically aligning resources managed within the الدولة to regional and global business plan.
- Coordinate business activities to collectively meet performance targets.
- Actively participate in the CIB Coverage/Markets Forum to support business strategy.
- Manage the implementation of الدولة CIB client segment strategies and ensure alignment to Cluster & Group.
- Collaborate with senior stakeholders in cluster countries to implement Cluster strategies.
- Through assignment to direct reports and working with matrix reports, ensure that the CIB Client Coverage strategy is implemented and managed in the الدولة.
- Oversee the delivery of CIB business performance and cost targets in the الدولة, aligning with the Group’s performance management framework.
- Support the business heads on development and implementation of their business strategy and on resolving material issues and risks.
- Responsible for the proper management of client relationships, client service, and ensuring fair treatment of CIB clients in the الدولة.
- Drive opportunities across business lines.

Risk Management
- Accountable to risk control owners and/or Group policy owners for implementation of policies and control standards set by them, and responsible for execution of الدولة-level processes.
- Work with relevant risk control functions to ensure that risks are properly monitored, mitigated and/or escalated.
- Oversee all material individual or systemic risks across each risk type (credit, operational, liquidity, reputational, market, etc.) and provide input into risk appetite, limits and acceptance.
Prudential Standard – Recovery and Resolution Planning
- Ensure local branch or subsidiary has an adequate recovery plan and accurate resolution information.
- Execute second line risk ownership responsibilities under ERMF and associated policies.
- Monitor control standards and enforce compliance.
- Challenge and support risk acceptance requests.
- Monitor live risks with الأول line owners.
Operational Continuity in Resolution (OCIR) Regulation
- Maintain compliance with OCIR regulations in local branch or subsidiary.
Governance
- Assess effectiveness of Group’s governance, oversight and controls in the business.
- Maintain effective الدولة organization structure, risk management framework, systems, and infrastructure.
- Oversee material investments and capital/project expenditure in the الدولة.
- Ensure business and functions prepare, test, and update Business Continuity Plans.
- Perform responsibilities assigned to a الدولة CEO under relevant policies.

- Ensure effective corporate governance for entities operating in the الدولة.
- Account for escalation to CMT, Group governance committees or risk control owners.
- Account for audit and peer reviews and audit readiness.
Regulatory & Business Conduct

- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines.
- Lead in achieving outcomes set in the Bank’s Conduct Principles.
- Identify, mitigate and resolve risk, conduct, and compliance matters.

- Comply with individual accountabilities as per local laws and SCB policies.
- Enhance internal controls and manage risks.
- Address regulatory failures or risks arising from duties.
Key Stakeholders
- Group MT, CIBMT, Coverage MT, Group Business/Functional Management Teams, Government officials, regulators, community leaders, industry bodies, political leaders, and business leaders.
- Subsidiary non-Executive Directors (if present).
Other Responsibilities

Qualifications
- Minimum a bachelor and/or master’s degree.
- Fluent in English, Arabic is a plus.
- Minimum 20 years of banking experience, preferably with Middle East experience.
- Strong leadership qualities, able to articulate and communicate the growing ambition and goals for the business and الدولة.
